Zé nasceu em Olimpia, interior de SP. Por causa de um insight quando tinha 11 anos mudou-se para São Paulo e foi estudar Design Gráfico na Belas Artes. Atualmente trabalha como ilustrador em seu estúdio e casa, a La Goma, que fica na Vila Mariana.
